The embracing and nurturing environment of the Texas A&M University-San Antonio Patriot’s Casa goes well beyond the “living room” environments of standard Veterans Affairs transitional facilities. The Patriot’s Casa was designed to restore and re-energize military and veteran students who join the A&M-San Antonio family, assuring their academic success and easy transition into a civilian lifestyle. Here, veteran students are offered specialized resources and support as they progress through a shared collegiate experience to become educated contributing members of society in the civilian workforce. The Patriot’s Casa houses the of ces of Military Relations, Advancement and Communications. Adjacent are the of ces of the A&M- San Antonio ROTC Corps. The “Stables” provide administrative and professional support in addition to study and recreation space for cadets as they prepare to graduate and accept future commissions as military of cers.
The Patriot’s Casa also offers con dential counseling and disability support for veteran students and their families in a comfortable, healing environment. The Patriot’s Casa helps the entire family make the important adjustments that come with transitioning to civilian life during this university experience through such services as family and couples counseling, childcare resources, and special family-oriented events that honor the dedication and sacri ces that are part of a military assignment. These services have proven to increase the success rates for critical transitions from warrior to civilian status. Studies have proven the bene ts of relaxing spaces in a recreational setting for relieving PTSD symptoms and other mental health issues incurred by military personnel. State-of-the-art media centers and open event venues allow veteran students to meet others like themselves. Cutting-edge multimedia and computer labs, group study lounges and activity rooms are available for all A&M-San Antonio students, encouraging bene cial interaction and creating an open atmosphere between military and civilian students, faculty and staff.
